Hibbing is a historic city in St. Louis County, Minnesota, located in the heart of the Mesabi Iron Range. It is one of the most significant mining communities in the United States, contributing greatly to Minnesota’s industrial growth.
History
Founded in 1893, Hibbing was built around the iron ore mining industry. The original town site was famously moved two miles south to accommodate expansion of the Hull–Rust–Mahoning Mine, one of the largest open-pit iron mines in the world.
